it's weird to me that anarchists/anti-authoritarians (in particular) often don't seem to view online moderation as authority

cause it plainly is

can you recall mods? are they representing the interests of a body/community? can you appeal? what does the appeal really signify (any real checks on it)?

it's not a justified hierarchy, in my opinion. but people seem to just pass over it as necessary and not rife with abuse of power

'decentralized' moderation isn't really much different from Reddit (worst mods ever?) if there is no infrastructure to make it so. it's unaccountable decisions made by anonymous authorities

i find that on fedi it mirrors the informal hierarchies you can see in anarchist/activist social spaces
