What a day... when the morning starts with dramatic "chirps" from the UPS that powers the router stuff; I thought it was a glitch in the power line, but it kept getting more urgent and then my internet went down... seems to be the "over temperature" alert... ahem...

@atkelar

Let me guess… an #APC consumer #UPS?
They don't cool their undersized electronics and batteries enough, so they fail early.

@Suran indeed a lower end APC - but I've gone with that one for... 20 odd years now... and several batteries of course, but this is the first one that litterally "exploded"...

@atkelar

I had one of the "power strip" style ones.
I think a Back-UPS 650VA or something similar.
(To allow the NAS to properly shut down and then power the FritzBox to remotely investigate for as long as it could.)

It started to beep and shut off it's load without warning even with a fresh battery after a few years.
A bit of research revealed that this was a common problem and the temperature inside was commonly seen as the cause.

@Suran This one is a Back-UPS 500 - I'd classify it as "home office" or "small business" one... maybe I'll drill a few vent holes into the case...
