Please tell me all your favorite movies about libraries, books, and archives
@katherine_montalto Not "about", per se, but I love the part of Wings of Desire that takes place in the library (it's near the beginning of the film).
@matthewconroy oh yeah! I like that. I'm going to check this out. Yeah I should widen it to just featuring these things since honestly that's great too!
@katherine_montalto it’s a documentary, Ex Libris - The New York Public Library by Frederick Wiseman is a whirlwind tour through almost every branch of the NYPL showing how it all works.
@kev this sounds so interesting! thanks for the rec!
@katherine_montalto A scene in a library provides one of the inciting incidents for the plot of Rushmore.

@katherine_montalto
Brilliant!

I'm a Book Conservator working with early manuscripts. It is an unofficial part of our training, to watch it. Loved it before that training.

@AmazingMeagen I love this film so much! More movies about curmudgeons!
@katherine_montalto Zardoz has a key connection to a certain book (you might be able to guess which one!). There is a brief scene in a library (I think) involving the book.
@matthewconroy it's been many years since I've watched zardoz. It's going on the list. Thanks for the reminder!
@katherine_montalto Party Girl (1995)
@jwz Party girl is one of my absolute favorite library movies!
@katherine_montalto @lyonsinbeta The Name of the Rose, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
@DataAngler I watched the name of the rose over the weekend! It was on tubi. Thanks for the rec. This was exactly what I was looking for!

How library y do they need to be? Like, does the library stuff need to be thorough enough that we know what cataloging system they use?
If not, there’s a fluffy TV series called “ The Librarians”. Gang of friends, secret knowledge, etc.
