I still don’t understand how my MacBook can keep its charge when not in use forever, but my iPad will consistently drain to 0% the next day after a full charge without a moment of actual use.

I only use my iPad to sketch in Procreate. It’s literally the only thing I use it for. And every time I reach for it and it’s at 0%, it’s letting me down, discouraging me from using it.

Every time, I think “Well, I guess I’ll do something else.” And that really hampers the moment I instinctively felt I needed to draw something.

@louie This is me. When I traded in my Mac Studio I bought a new iPad Air (I've only used Pros prior to this) and the battery has been great…thus far.

I've also been happy to use the Beam browser on iPad, it's so much better than Safari.

@netopwibby Wait, sorry you lost me. Which part of this do you relate to?
@louie Having an iPad that's always dead when I reach for it.

@netopwibby @louie I’ve improved my iPad standby time by using Shortcuts Automations to set Low Power and Airplane modes overnight, and auto set a Reminder to change when battery gets below 25% so this rarely happens to me anymore.

I forget who recommended this, probably @viticci ?

@netopwibby Oh I see. I think I was confused because you said the battery has been great (so far).
@louie Understandable, the missing context was in my head.
@louie particular, I saw this is starting to happen with the iPad Pro. I started now leaving the Apple Pencil in a separate pouch, because if it remains attached it depletes the iPad. Still, even without the pencil charging the battery lasts much less than expected.
@louie I’m not sure when iPad lost its magical 30-day standby that the original one had, but that was a really great part of that product
@louie Is Procreate continuing to run in the background, draining battery? I have a few music apps that do that, so I have to force-quit them or come back to an empty battery in the morning
@mistercharlie I can’t imagine that’s what it is.
@louie which, by the way, was something that the original iPad could also do perfectly well.
@louie even if you turn it off it loses charge within a week IME. My iPad is just a paperweight on my desk at this point and this behaviour is actively stopping me from upgrading to a new one.
@louie I was surprised recently when I reached for mine after a few days and it still had a charge (left in airplane mode, so guessing all the chatty network stuff is what drains it)
@ben I have a nightly Airplane mode shortcut which helps but then the flurry of alerts when it reconnects drives me nuts. Can’t win!
@haglund that's a good idea, too bad about the notification onslaught
@haglund @ben that notification onslaught is one of the most egregiously user-hostile things I’ve ever encountered. Literally minutes of not actually being able to use my device while every text message that I’ve ALREADY READ on another device pinging in and no way to stop it.
@louie yep, I feel like using the iPad and Apple Pencil like once every 6 days and when I grab it, it’s dead.
@louie oh, this isn’t just me. I could’ve sworn the iPad didn’t used to suck like this.
@louie I have the same problem with my 2018 Pro but figured it was just an age thing. How old is yours?
