It is just incredible how good @infuse is for local network media playback. Highly recommended.

@mattiem @infuse I ditched Plex and similar apps for Infuse when I found it. It also can work quite well over VPN at least Tailscale managed WireGuard.

I love the ability to shuffle.

@mattiem on one hand I should migrate from Plex and on the other hand my NAS has been running on the same hard drives for 8 years and once they die I’m not sure computer parts will be available for purchase anymore
@mattiem @infuse I’m on the Jellyfin-infuse pipeline for my vision pro
@mattiem @infuse Yes, and it’s great combined with Plex too!
@cdf1982 what does plex give you? I just have infuse pointed to an SMB share and it does everything I think?

@mattiem Insightful question! Probably not much more if I stop and think about it… I like the centralized metadata Plex gives me, and it actually precedes Infuse for me so I went straight for the integration, and occasionally I still need Plex to transcode to a TV without a LAN port nearby (though transcoding requires the Plex app, which is garbage).

Most likely I’d be just fine doing the same thing you’re doing

@mattiem @cdf1982 When I’m away from the house, I can browse and watch all the things I have at home. Plex will transcode things which can’t stream because they’re too high bitrate for the connection or if they’re not compatible with the client app.
@JonathanGerlach @mattiem Yup, basically what I need to do from *inside* the house in one room. But you can’t do that in Infuse, right?
