Congratulations, you won!
@catsalad You gotta hit that Turbo button for zoomie action.

@phaysis @catsalad

It used to be a delay loop, tuned for a 80286 CPU.

With each successive CPU release it got faster and faster. 80386 was a little faster. 80486 was a lot faster… Pentium 133MHz quite brisk.

I recall my father finishing a game on his (then new) dual Pentium PRO 200MHz machine running Windows NT 4.0… the animation was finished in 3 seconds flat.

5 years later, he got a new machine, dual Pentium III 1GHz with Windows 2000. We retried the experiment, then watched as the cards fell as sedately as @catsalad's video… they had fixed the delay loop for newer CPUs.

I was greatly disappointed.

@stuartl @catsalad I still have some DOS games that are unplayable on anything faster than 200MHz. Start game, everything zooms, and then you die.

And then game devs started timing the game against the video refresh rate, and everyone rejoiced.

@catsalad I’ve missed that animation so much 🥺
@wendynather @catsalad Me too, I moved on to the defrag animation because it was plausibly work related 😅
@catsalad Winning the game is when all the green is covered. 😰
@catsalad I’ve been using Z2S2, Z2S3, Z2S4 (rarely) and Z2S5 over time.
@catsalad spooky castle!
@jonathankoren @catsalad Yeah,. Hands down [NPI], spooky castle every time.
@tankgrrl @catsalad I was jealous that the beach’s sun would occasionally get a face. I don’t remember any other back being animated.
@jonathankoren @tankgrrl @catsalad didn’t the card up the sleeve of the last one slide in and out of the cuff occasionally?
@Bryson @tankgrrl @catsalad Maybe. I was thinking that one was also animated, but don’t remember.
@jonathankoren @Bryson @tankgrrl @catsalad I usually chose the beach for the smiley sun. I seem to remember the castle bats and bits of the robot were also animated.
@alicemcalicepants @Bryson @tankgrrl @catsalad honestly, I think the animated backs were a thing with the Windows game pack that FreeCell and TriPeaks and all those other games
@catsalad Pretty sure I usually went with the beach scene. 🏝️
@catsalad palm trees or card player
@catsalad That selection has not changed in years…
@catsalad palm trees forever.
@britt @catsalad Ooh I remember choosing the fishies with the lighter blue background but rotated between a handful including palm trees.
@catsalad It always bothered me how they cheaped out on the card backs—why have 12 choices when there are really only 10 (arguably 9) designs?
@catsalad always the vampire castle. 🦇🦇🧛🏻‍♀️🧛🏻‍♀️🏰🏰
@catsalad I always went with the haunted castle
@catsalad I always played the beach deck!
@catsalad nostalgic..🤣🤣🤣🤣
@catsalad I always pick the hand holding cards because the animation has an ace peeking out of the sleeve
@catsalad Very important settings.
@catsalad always a robot :)

@catsalad Clownfish with seaweed.

Or the spooky Transylvanian castle.

@catsalad Dark Castle all day long…
@catsalad holy shit you can't just casually throw out nostalgia that potent, I had completely forgotten about those and you activated some ancient neurons on me in the middle of the afternoon
