Gamers react with overwhelming disgust to DLSS 5's generative AI glow-ups
Nvidia's next frame-gen tech goes way beyond upscaling, and not in a good way

@arstechnica the entire selling point of dlss until 2 days ago was to get as close as possible to native rendering without alterations 😭
@arstechnica
I can see what Nvidia was trying to do; DLSS 5 turns human-generated art into something akin to an AI-generated photo. This is something like what smartphone camera software does to our photos. But Nvidia has forgotten that we love games for their art, for the escape into a different world, and that the blurred lines of scenes and characters allow our imaginations to customize or personalize what we see. Giving all the characters plastic surgery does not make a game better.
@arstechnica @siracusa damn: just destroy a game’s entire art direction I guess🤷‍♂️

@vmachiel @arstechnica @siracusa

yeah just because they have money the "know" what everyone wants.. ffs.. time to archive some drivers I guess

muzzling users is only good for business if one is apple (rotten to the core) or Windoze.

is this still DLSS, really? where are we drawing the line between upscaling and modification
@arstechnica it’s almost as bad as motion smoothing on tvs!
@arstechnica honestly I don't give a shit anymore. Modern gaming is dead to me. And this isn't just a #NVIDIA thing. #AMD has given the consumer market the middle finger, and developers in general who no longer makes tight code but instead relies on hardware to brunt force perfomance means you need a 4 figure $ card every 3 years for AAA titles. Done. There is a lifetime supply of older good games on Steam that will run perfectly fine on my 3090FE and console emulation adds another lifetime supply. I'm out bitches (to the hardware manufacturers)
@arstechnica More slop I hate it. I hate it so much. I cant wait for this AI bubble to burst. #slop
@arstechnica hah, it removes the background people: hope you didn't need to notice they were there for the gameplay!
