i don't want smaller keyboards. get outta here with that 80% nonsense. give me 100%. give me 120%. give me the hidden function keys windows doesn't want you to know about. if i don't feel like i'm in a nuclear reactor control room there aren't enough keys
@blaurascon i only want small (my current thing) or space cadet style, but nothing in between
@blaurascon if https://mastodon.social/@dch82/114014736893542691 was real i would be making an irresponsible purchase right now

@niss @blaurascon i very much want to get myself one of these

@irina @niss @blaurascon this almost convinced me to get into fabrication, until I saw where the navigation block (ins/del/pgup/...) had been tucked away. Why 😭
@jpetazzo the three buttons between the main key area and the numpad are home/pgup/pgdn by default, I think? you can remap it, but by default there's just two of each of those

@blaurascon we should be allowed to plug in a bunch of keyboards and have a pipe organ thing going on with them
@blaurascon HOW DO PEOPLE SURVIVE WITHOUT TENKEYS
@BobDendry @blaurascon I have found my people.
@mWare @BobDendry @blaurascon very glad i didn't buy a tenkeyless now i started learning Blender
@mrsbeanbag @mWare @blaurascon oh yes, I struggled so much messing about with blender on my laptop because of this.
@BobDendry @blaurascon never used it so I don't miss it when I don't have it
Even with a tenkeyless I still bump into the keyboard, preferably I would like an HP style layout, where it's got the squashed nav cluster and the tenkeys are inside the letter keys with numlock
@BobDendry @blaurascon for now I have a keypad I plug in when I need it
I haven't touched it in years
@blaurascon all the cute keyboards are TOO SMALL.

@blaurascon As someone who's used different mechanical keyboards, I admit that I NEED the function keys at the very least! Having to do FN + the number keys can get awkward fast

Also, if you guys want a board with lots of keys, there's this:

@blaurascon i want keyboard that wheezes and clanks, emitting jets of steam. i want a keyboard with gauges on it, moving ominously into the red as my wpm increases
@thegarbagebird @blaurascon you want a typewriter
@bidoof29 @blaurascon i absolutely do. it would force me to slow down so as not to jam the print bars. typewriter with a usb output, that’s what would fix me
@thegarbagebird @bidoof29 @blaurascon Flexowriter or a Teletype. This was a very popular late 50s computer terminal. (Favorite detail: when printing data from the computer, THE KEYS MOVE.)
@davefischer @thegarbagebird @bidoof29 @blaurascon
I like the "speed strip" for the paper tape at the front.

@blaurascon uff: searching in https://chaos.social/search for keyboard posts is a rabbithole for itself

some weeks ago somebody had a keyboard project with hundreds of keys ... cant find it tho

@blaurascon so the following link is a passion piece for a font, HOWEVER, there are photos of beautifully large keyboards (including ~717 key behemoth). https://aresluna.org/the-hardest-working-font-in-manhattan/

@blaurascon minimalist keyboard nerds building altoid-tin boards >u<

@blaurascon

Masterkeys Pro M still the best keyboard layout.

@blaurascon Get a proper 104-key keyboard, and **then** place a programmable game controller next to it:
@blaurascon An issue I have often is the layout is too tight. For most typing that's not a problem, but when I have to stretch to hit a key like the backspace, I will often not have that as "just" where I'm aiming, but hit a function key, or something.

I have no idea if I'll find a keyboard that I actually like. But maybe...
@blaurascon I think you've just identified the VR killer app.

@blaurascon alas, you’ve just missed this one, but another will be along in 5 years or so.

@etc Oh, so that's how overdoing it looks like. I think I like it though. @blaurascon
@blaurascon i had six macro buttons on my old keyboard. it was *heavenly*
@devlin @blaurascon MS Sidewinder? Great for β€œtech support β€œ scammers when I say I can’t find a β€œcontrol” key. β€œSir what is key on bottom left?” β€œS6”.
@MortonRobD @blaurascon yep, it was lovely! Now I use a Corsair K70 LUX, and a STRAFE at my partner's place for my laptop(both cherry browns)
@devlin ill make a note of those for when my sidewinder finally dies. I have an IBM PS/2 clone but it's a bit noisy for a shared study.
@MortonRobD They're decent mechboards and a little louder than the sidey, though it's not by much - you might miss the macro keys, but the passthru usb port on the back of the keyb is really good to have
@blaurascon I just need a keyboard with one key: angry emoji
@blaurascon @jaybird110127 I accidentally ended up as the owner of a 60% keyboard and it is ... weird. Sure wish I could get a keyboard with f13 through f24 on it. I would make them all do something.

https://github.com/Technofrikus/Boston-Case

its still marketed under "compact" being 1.5u (a tab button worth of space) wider than a 96% (not-standardized), as far as i can tell a 96% looks about like these

u still get. an entire p row. a thing nobody has heard of until now.

@blaurascon Full scale IBM keyboards with all 24 function keys plus an additional 12 on side in case you wanted them there.

@V_Mags_Fox @blaurascon Oh, I'd forgotten about those huge keyboards!

Really I'd like this K860 keyboard, but with actual permanent F-keys, not this "shared with the media player" stuff. where I can never remember what mode the keys are in.

@arafel @blaurascon I have the K740, unfortunately no longer made, but the PF keys are always Function unless you hit FN along with for the media stuff.

@V_Mags_Fox @blaurascon Thanks - maybe I'll go hit up eBay or similar. πŸ™‚

Edit: my mistake, should have looked it up before saying that. :)
