There's this thing that I often see in anime that annoys me.

When the protagonist or someone else gets a non-human love interest and they end up together, but only by focusing on their human elements.

More often than not, this also means the non-human character becoming human, or that the character displays more human-like traits.

A manga I've seen do a loving relationship with a non-human well was Knights of Sidonia.

The protagonist at a certain point completely ignores his love interest's (fake) human form and feels passionate about her real self:

  • alien
  • developed in a laboratory
  • of literal eldritch proportions
  • using a tentacle to present as a worm-like creature in human size with a single eye

Love entirely not based on appearance and likeness to a human. Or rather, their non-human appearance is entirely accepted. It's beautiful.

What other anime (or piece of media) you know that has done a similar thing?

@herzenschein Idr if it has that aspect in particular but I've been meaning to ask if you've read Heterogenia Linguistico. very furry, very language nerdy
