Every morning, the queen asked her magic mirror to show her the most beautiful person in the world.

The mirror replied "To whom?"

"The miller who made the flour for my bread," the queen would say, or "Whoever spun the thread my shawl was made of".

The mirror would show her, and she'd be amazed.

@MicroSFF Justice for the Queen!!!

(thank you)

@MicroSFF
Smart queen.
Smart mirror!
@MicroSFF OK this is another cute one
@MicroSFF “would *show her*” or “would show *her*”? what’s the intended stress?
@Profpatsch @MicroSFF
I would imagine show to the queen. "The most beautiful person" is non-gendered. Also, the person to whom they are beautiful has no stated gender or sexual identity.
@SometimesLovely @MicroSFF well but would it show "the queen"? It can be read like it shows *her*, every time. Reflexive vs not I guess
@Profpatsch @SometimesLovely If the queen saw herself every time she wouldn't be amazed.
@MicroSFF @Profpatsch @SometimesLovely If one of the times it *did* show her I think she'd be amazed by that too! And she'd know it was genuine :)
@Profpatsch @MicroSFF Hehe. This is a common translation issue for languages with dative case!
@MicroSFF very happy-making.
@MicroSFF This has me desperately curious as to what she saw each time. Family members? Affairs? Idols? Lolcats?
@MicroSFF Aww, this made me think about my most beautiful persons.
@MicroSFF thank you, this was lovely.
