Honestly I don't even know where to start, just speechless.

This is just sooo bad 😑

#TikTok and #Meta = pure evil:

"maximizes profits at the expense of their audience's wellbeing"

"told us that it's because the stock price is down"

"maintain a strong relationship" with political figures to avoid threats of regulation or bans"

"advice to parents with children using TikTok is: "Delete it, keep them as far away as possible from the app for as long as possible"

Meta and TikTok let harmful content rise after evidence outrage drove engagement - whistleblowers

Companies allowed more harmful content on user’s feeds, knowing their algorithms ran on outrage, BBC hears.

@madeindex
"Nick said the reason for the prioritisation was that - in his view - the company ultimately cares less about children's safety than it does about maintaining a "strong relationship" with politicians and governments, to avoid regulations or bans which would harm its business."
This from the company that allegedly lobbies for and funds the push for ID verification, ostensibly to 'protect children' but really to harvest biometrics.

Yes, exactly. The same companies. They sell the disease along with the "cure".

Step 1: dismantle anything effective that would protect children (like good moderation)

Step 2: cry, "OMG think of the children!"

Step 3: push the most draconian, invasive, dystopian supervillain shit imaginable.

I've been seeing sweet teenagers being brought on the news to talk sadly about how traumatized they are, and then they'll casually say something like, "Big tech is so dangerous-- excuse me, I mean *predatory* tech," and ALL the alarm bells in my head start going off.

As if anything could ever GET that big without being inherently predatory.

As if invasive surveillance and monopolistic, authoritarian power imbalances are not the real problem, and the attitude just needs a bit of tweaking. Making it sound so common-sense and necessary. Of COURSE your computer should collect all kinds of sensitive data the actual minute you take it out of the box and turn it on-- just not, you know, in a BAD way?

@violetmadder @madeindex
Indeed. They sell the cure for a disease they caused. And it's not even a cure, it's just a scam.
@MostlyTato hahah so on point! But this time with that new AI moderation everything will surely change - not ;) @violetmadder
