A problem in choosing the image for this cover was that the heroine is consistently portrayed as being drab and uninteresting. Yet uninteresting is the last thing a book cover should be! 1/4

To combat this, I faced her away from the light and contrasted the dreariness of her life with the promise of her future, represented by the stained glass window. There a dragon is fixed in the shape of a heart, the centerpoint of her soul's desire. 2/4
This was one of my last paintings on masonite, a hard and "unsympathetic" material to paint on, which was largely replaced in my studio by canvas and watercolor board. 3/4

@MichaelWhelan I like painting on masonite. I find it needs a fair amount of gesso on it but gives a nice final product
