Yes, indeedy. I haven't yet read about it, but #LionsLedByDonkeys podcast did a series about it.
ETA: I'm realizing there were multiple peasant revolts and wars in many countries. In general, though, they have much cause to rise up and are put down violently by the wealthy and powerful.
