500mb Geopotential Height & Normalized Anomaly really is a great geeky weather visualization of "where is the extreme weather"

(Red = much warmer than normal, blue = much colder than normal = heat dome in California, and very cold weather centered over Ilinois in this Monday forecast, I believe).

Oooh, look at the forecast for Fryday... err.. Friday. Good luck Arizona and Nevada. Death Valley, too.

Forecast on Friday for Death Valley: 107F.
(in March, mind you).

@ai6yr
The alternative spelling (fryday) is appropriate.
@ai6yr I'm glad not to live in a place where a mere 104 is insufficient to qualify as "and hot".

@ai6yr
My parents wintering in Arizona aren't quite ready to migrate back to the PNW for the summer. Mom was under the impression it'll just be a blip ("technically it's still winter!") 😂

Anyhow, I put a bug in their ear about the heat a few days ago, so hopefully they're ready for it and the normal weather forecasts have more of an impact when finally arriving.

geeky interjection:
Depending on the exact locales involved, it looks like some careful route planning could have your folks riding an isobar all the way from AZ to the Pacific Northwest.

*assuming they completed all their travel before Monday's 18z prediction changes, which seems unlikely in both meteorological & human-behavioral terms
