A very interesting closeup of a rock next to #Perseverance, showing some intriguing curved stripes. Millimeter scale.

@65dBnoise that is quite interesting. do you remember seeing anything similar from these before?

@tsrono
IIRC, we've seen some vaguely similar to those stripes features ("similar" as judged by my brain's pattern recognition neural system, which is of course biased toward earthly patterns) but they were of a much larger size.

Dark spots like those… I don't recall seeing before. Maybe @sharponlooker or @PaulHammond51 recall seeing something similar?

@65dBnoise if similar ones were seen at varying sizes that might be something of a clue for what could've caused them of course.

looking at it now, someone else in your comments mentioned the rectangle on the center left there - also i'm thinking that might be the same thing at the top right? could be mistaken of course but does hint at the 'stripe' pattern there.

I meant not at this location, but elsewhere. But without a clue about their composition, I don't trust my IANAG judgement of their similarity to be of any value.

@65dBnoise aye yeah, i'm not over here trying to do science. i'm just blabbering.

@sharponlooker @PaulHammond51

@65dBnoise @tsrono @PaulHammond51 IANAG™, but I suspect the dark spots are more olivine, just in a different mix , considering this is probably an older, less altered rock that those seen previously.

The stripes are something I haven't seen at that scale, they are so tiny... But someone with good knowledge of igneous processes and differentiation would probably diagnose them immediately.
