Antenna 63 at the Madrid site of the Deep Space Network is dedicated to communication with Voyager 1 at the moment.

Distance to the spacecraft: 25,400,000,000 kilometers.

That's 23.5 hours one-way light travel time; it takes almost two days to send a telecommand and receive a response from the probe.

I still find it astounding how far humanity's creativity can take us.

Voyager FDS Emulator는 1970년대 JPL에서 설계된 Voyager 우주선의 Flight Data Subsystem(FDS)을 완벽하게 에뮬레이션하는 프로젝트입니다. 이 FDS는 1MHz 미만의 속도와 8,192 단어 메모리로 48년간 재부팅 없이 우주 데이터를 처리해왔으며, 에뮬레이터는 원본 명령어 세트, 메모리 뱅킹, DMA, 인터럽트를 구현합니다. 현재는 이 에뮬레이터를 실제 실리콘 칩으로 구현하는 작업이 진행 중이며, SKY130 공정을 사용해 원본보다 작고 빠른 칩을 제작할 계획입니다. 이 프로젝트는 50년 전 문서를 찾아내고 디지털화한 도서관 협력 없이는 불가능했으며, 우주선 컴퓨터의 견고함과 설계의 탁월함을 재조명합니다.
