I almost never use Gimp myself and only for very basic things. And year after year I've seen comments from people complaining about Gimp, but this comment on Lemmy about the new Gimp release makes me wonder whether it is celebration time for some! 🥳

Recently I tried GIMP, and though it took me a while to find some things, I’m now doing everything I could do previously with Photoshop, ironically except link layers. That was the last thing I needed to fully endorse GIMP, and it seems to be exactly what I needed. Fantastic work!!"

@regendans had ik al eens gezegd dat als je Photoshop gewend was, dat https://www.photopea.com/ dan het allerbeste alternatief is. Is online, dus je hoeft niets te downloaden, en het werkt vrijwel hetzelfde als Photoshop. Veel intuitiever dan GIMP!

Oe, bedankt voor deze tip! Het menu ziet er vertrouwd uit als wat ik ooit van Photoshop gewend ben. Iets wat ik namelijk maar niet kan met GIMP's icoontjes en hoe deze gegroepeerd zijn.

Zodra ik een projectje heb, zal ik het eens uitproberen.

@McWabbit @regendans dat had ik dus ook. Ik kon aan GIMP maar niet wennen, terwijl dit vrijwel meteen bekend aanvoelde (al is het dan in de taal van je OS, terwijl ik Engels gewend was). Je kunt gewoon met psd-files werken, met lagen, en alles op dezelfde manier als in Photoshop. Ongelooflijk hoe 1 jonge man dit zo heeft kunnen maken.

@regendans @McWabbit oh, van dat Github snap ik nooit iets 😬 Maar ik was ook juist blij dat ik voor PhotoPea niets hoefde te installeren, want mijn ssd loopt aardig vol inmiddels. En bij photopea lijkt je privacy ook gewaarborgd.

Tried use GIMP a few times, but the standards feels way too different from Photoshop. Like basically everything. I’m not a designer, but I use such tools once in a while to make some images, and GIMP is nearly impossible to use for me. Currently I’m sticking with Photopea on browser.

En dank voor de hint, als ik mensen tegen kom die van Photoshop af willen en niks met Gimp kunnen, en niet perse open source willen gebruiken, dan kan ik ze op Photopea wijzen, ik heb de weblink in m'n bookmarks gezet.
