[EDIT: now sorted thank you SO MUCH!]

Heads up my dudes, my son needs to do work experience this summer and he's a programmer. Nearly 15, can do 3 decent languages, main in Java, been programming since 4. All he wants to do is be a developer. Anyone offer work experience these days? Two weeks in July. London or Dartford way or anywhere in between. Ta! Retoots appreciated!

@Thayer Not sure if we'd be suitable, we're a small mainly remote company in Bristol, but I am looking to find a source of freelancers for bits of ad-hoc #Java work. Out of interest how did he come to learn that, I didn't think many people were still teaching youngsters Java?
@okohll nice! Yeah sadly Bristol a bit far for him at 14 and we're in Kent :) he's self taught. Happy to retoot you though to my network, if you have a job post on here? I am a recruiter (dw, no charge) and my network is full of decent techs. I can think of one straight away actually, Stephen Wolff if you're happy with remote? (No charge just being kind back as you were to me!)
@Thayer oh thank you, much appreciated, I’ll take a look tomorrow. No job post but I’ll think about that
@Thayer maybe find a Siemens Healthineers office near you, they look for such young talents for their ITL Department worldwide
@marlinz that's a great shout thank you I will 🙂
@Thayer @DevlinLeathercraft I wish him the best of luck and wish I had a lead for him. But I also suggest that he come up with a Plan B. Developer jobs aren't looking too good these days.
@mlanger I'm sure n9 one is more aware of that than. @Thayer.
@Thayer I might be able to offer something. My company doesn’t use a lot of Java, though. DM me for contact details and let’s talk.
@Thayer What area does he want to work in? Fintech perhaps?
@TazPoltorak anything really! So long as it's 2 weeks and he's in an office. If he can't get programming based W.E. it'll be whatever he can find.
@Thayer I'll try to speak to our hr person in charge of interns tomorrow. Idk what they will say but I can discuss it. This would be a fintech firm in the City.
@TazPoltorak thanks that's really kind! It's just a 2 week non paid work experience. They can literally just make coffee, file papers, watch people etc. It's to give school kids an idea of the work place. They try and get them in the industry they want to work in too see how work works. Thank you :)
@Thayer most internships are full by now. I know our tech has standby candidates with all 55 seats filled. They generally open in august and are usually filled by mid-november. I recommend going to university career fairs and the like, as those will usually be easier to navigate than online only offerings. That said, here is my company's submission portal: https://cmegroup.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/cme_careers

@ghostrunner that's so helpful thanks! He's only 14 it's a UK thing where kids work in industry for 2 weeks but this will be really helpful in a few years, thank you.

@Thayer Can you share more about his passions and problems he is interested solving / what he wants to build? What does he do for fun?

To to use analogy, if I said, "I can speak English, Spanish, Chinese snd want a job speaking over the summer" it may not give prospective employers enough idea of how I can serve them.

@jrovu well as it's only 2 weeks he will more likely be making coffee and watching people :) he be very happy with anything. Are you in the UK, and if so you remember your school imposed work experience at 14? :) is going to be the same.
@Thayer same boat as Oliver here, always looking for help over at my FOSS project, QZ Tray. We're on GitHub and we pay, but is mostly a self-leaen, self-discipline gig.
@tresf awesome thanks! Sadly he needs to be onsite (I should have said) so I'm guessing this wouldn't work but thank you so much!

@Thayer Would this be of interest to him? We're based next to Gatwick Airport.

@matt_ellery omg this is so cool!!! I would have loved this for mine! No good for Max but I'll share it with his school for any of the other kids, that's an amazing opportunity thank you so much!!
