How did your interest in technology start? And have you always been interested in finding ways to combine tech and creative writing/art?

It's interesting that you should phrase it that way. Early on, most of the adults in my life tried to steer me towards technology. And, to be fair, I was pretty decent at math and science, and tech was a safer bet, career-wise.

But, in doing so, they steered me away from creative pursuits. I remember one particular incident in which I was admonished for daydreaming during Creative Writing class. Let that sink in for a bit.

As a result, I concentrated on engineering, starting in hardware design, then segueing into software engineering. As I became more immersed in tech, I found it necessary to find a creative outlet. I'd work in tech all day, then blow off steam artistically after hours.

I really shouldn't complain, though. Tech paid me well enough that I was able take care of myself and still have enough left over to spend on art supplies.

To be fair, I can't really draw, and I'm not at all musically gifted. But I do seem to have a knack for writing. I also seem to have an odd ability to find creative ways of repurposing things in ways they were never intended to be used. That turns out to be a useful skill in both tech and art.

But, long story short, I suppose I've always been interested in both tech and art, and have combined the two, in differing proportions over time. It does seem, though, like I started off on the tech side, and then learned to express myself artistically more as I've gotten older.

I think it was when I started writing, in 1979. I had a manual Smith Corona typewriter and at one point I discovered an electronic typewriter and I can't remember the brand, I thought it was like magic. That was probably my first brush with technology.
