@promovicz @Em0nM4stodon Yeah, 'witch' was originally a gender-neutral term for one who trucks with the devil for the illusion of magic powers. For, ahem, *reasons*, it came to be coded as female. This was recent enough that Tolkien called the leader of the Nazgûl the Witch-King without irony.
Interestingly, most of the people executed for witchcraft in Scandinavia were men due to different cultural ideas about magic.
