In January and February, I was contracted to surgically implant trackers in 15 mallards in Louisiana, by the Louisiana Waterfowl Working Group. Here's a movement map from March 2nd showing their dispersal north. This is the second year I've assisted this organization. In time, the pooled information will help in the management of duck harvest and land management/conservation efforts.

@avianvet I'm glad you mentioned who you were contracted by so I don't have to wonder if it was a legitimate reason or just a request from some random person with a weird duck fetish you found on fiverr or airtasker or whatever.

@StarkRG XD I hope you’re kidding. But seriously, yeah, I review research proposals before committing. I make it as comfortable as I can, but it’s still an invasive procedure, so I want to be sure the reasons are valid and necessary. I care about my patients. It’s rare I’d have to turn any proposal down though because by the time they’re contracting me, they’ve gone through months of other institutional care and use reviews and funding proposals. Field research is a collaborative process and I’m just one part.
