As we mark the 41st anniversary of Strawberry Switchblade's Let Her Go, let's jump back even further in time to the earliest studio recording of it, from their very first BBC session.

Though the band were unsigned, Radio 1 DJs John Peel and David Jensen found them at the same time via different routes. They ended up recording a session for each show on consecutive days!

Jensen got there first, though Peel's was broadcast first.

On 3 October 1982 they recorded four songs for Jensen:
🎵 Dance (an early version of Since Yesterday)
🎵 Another Day
🎵 By The Sea
🎵 Linda (later retitled Let Her Go)

Rose McDowall and Jill Bryson were joined on the day by:
🎸 Psychic TV's Alex Fergusson (guitar)
🎸 Orange Juice's James Kirk (bass)
🥁 The Recognitions' Shahid Sarwar (drums)

The band now own all their master tapes, and there's a deluxe release of BBC sessions and rarities called Another Day in the pipeline.

In the meantime, we've got all five Strawberry Switchblade BBC sessions on our YouTube channel.
