Normalizing app store choice | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

This Week in F-Droid TWIF curated on Thursday, 13 Mar 2026, Week 11 F-Droid core The countdown to September lock-down continues. Did you do your part? Did yo...

@fdroidorg I do not want apps made with AI. Is it possible to badge the apps using this ?
@scalonnec @fdroidorg Same, very much same. Would be great if F-Droid could be part of the solution here with a flag, when known. There are one or two projects to try and trace projects and influential frameworks using slop, like open-slopware:
https://codeberg.org/small-hack/open-slopware
open-slopware

Free/Open Source Software tainted by LLM developers/developed by genAI boosters, along with alternatives. Fork of the repo by @gen-ai-transparency after its deletion.

Codeberg.org

@scalonnec No, because you never know how the code was created.

@fdroidorg

@aemstuz @fdroidorg that's a big caveat, as AI is a very problematic issue regarding reliability and security. Exactly what F-Droid is supposed to provide against Play Store. I don't understand how F-Droid can slip on slop and cry about Google doing sh*t (officially) for security concerns on the same time. We're giving reasons to Google by doing this...
@scalonnec @aemstuz Just by existing we can give anyone any reason they can use for their own rhetoric. 😸
@fdroidorg Yep Google is turning Android into a nightmare, they don't need help 🤗

@scalonnec

Uninstall your Linux. And possibly most of your Software on it. 🤷

@fdroidorg

Even Linux Creator Linus Torvalds is Using AI to Code in 2026

Linus Torvalds is working on a new side project and he is not hesitating to take the help of AI.

It's FOSS
@holger I'm running FreeBSD and if I could, I'd run a BSD on my phone 🤗

@fdroidorg

F Droid, essential

especially since I purchased my NO GOOGLE
honor 9X Pro.

@fdroidorg
> AndrOBD was updated to V2.7.4 after some months of development. Does the changelog sound nice? Oh, new contributors have arrived…

> Copilot made their first contribution in #295
> (…)

You *need* the slop anti-features.

@fdroidorg

I would want an option to mark Ai made Apps and filter them out.
I don' t want them.

@fdroidorg tried to find fdroid in goog play and no matter what i search it does not appear in the list. I am in South Africa. Weird!

@dbat

🤡 Install from their sources. It is FOSS. 🤷

@holger @fdroidorg oh right. I forgot! Will do.
@fdroidorg the only thing I miss in Basic 2.0 is an ability to manually sync the repos. Is it going to be implemented?
@brefox Already available, see repository details screen 😉
@fdroidorg thank! But wouldn't it be better, if you could pull-to-refresh on Apps tab? I have a lot of repos added and find it difficult and time consuming to dive deep into the settings and update each repository separately.
@brefox Is autoupdate not working for you?
@fdroidorg not the well. I could see repos getting updated in the notification panel, but after that I may not get any updates in Apps tab, but it would be available if you open some app. Also, I like to keep auto updates off, but check for them manually when I want or when there's some CVE has been published for an app.
@fdroidorg add manual check for updates option
@exitcode Already in, check repo details screen titlebar.
@fdroidorg it's hidden and too many taps away. I am talking about pull-to-check like it was before
@exitcode Is autoupdate not working for you?
@fdroidorg I don't want to use autoupdate. I check and install updates manually
