I dropped a stitch when attaching yarn for a forethought heel. Toe down sock, stitch on the toe-side of the hole so the stitches are 'upside down'. I cannot get my brain around how to pick it up properly. Anyone with a (link to a) good explanation? I really don't want to unravel the whole foot.

Edit: it’s technically picked up in the pic, but it doesn’t look right in the red/pink colorwork (gaping stitches). I’m looking for the correct way to fix.

@pointysticksncoffee I can't see the dropped stitch. Sometimes we see the mistakes that others won't. If it's in the color-work, I think you're going to have to ask yourself how big a deal it really is. If you could pick it up, you would still have an irregularity because you'd be shoving the existing ones aside, using yarn that isn't there, if that makes sense. If it were me, I'd just accept it.

@temporal_spider @HelenLockhart The stitch is 'picked up' in the image, as in, there's no loose stitches and I have the required amount of stitches on the needles. In the red/pink colorwork there are now gaps and irregularities that I really don't want there (it's the bottom side of the heel), so I wonder how I can go back and fix correctly.

It seems to me that the colour work is correct. If this is true, then the problem is just about the tension. You can fix that by gently pulling the stitches to the sides of the loose ones until the tension is distributed more evenly.

@pointysticksncoffee @HelenLockhart ah, the heel. You could get out your tapestry needle and do some double stitch. If you use the same colors, it will be invisible and reinforce your heel.

@pointysticksncoffee It is difficult to see the stitch that has been dropped but I think I see it. Unravelling back to that stitch will be tricky, but I'm assuming your stitch count is out?

My thoughts would be to not go back but that stitch that has been dropped will need securing with a stitch somehow otherwise it may unravel. And to correct your stitch count I would simply increase by one at somewhere where it won't be obvious.

Can you crochet? Dropped stitches can easily be crocheted back up to your needle.
