why is this 4 month old post getting engagement
@mia mia posts by time of engagement
guys its been a year you can let this post go
@mia had to do this (I don't know how to add labels to charts in LibreOffice)
@FedericoSchonborn @mia Windows 2000?
@ljrk @FedericoSchonborn @mia is the version numer for rolling release distros a unix timestamp in UTC?
@ljrk now on one hand Windows 2000 was a name, and the version number series was NT 5.x BUT the current Win11 version number is 23H2 🤔 @FedericoSchonborn @mia
@shi @ljrk @mia it turns out Windows version numbers are the friends we made along the way
@FedericoSchonborn @mia meanwhile Ubuntu approaching version 24.04:
@mia y'all asked for this
@FedericoSchonborn @mia thanks for the handy chart! think i'll be switching to gentoo now 🤣
@FedericoSchonborn
Seems strange for Arch and Gentoo to be on opposite sides when they're both rolling releases. I guess it goes down to what they chose to call their updates.
@mia
#fedora is clearly the winner here, looking forward to the release of #fedora42 🥳
@FedericoSchonborn @mia you should add NixOS, currently at 23.11
@mia Where did you get that from?
@mia OS are so behind the the browser's curve ~
@mia haters will say windows once was at least 95
@mia
Reminds me of Slackware being annoyed a few decades ago that SUSE Linux increased its version number with each release, apparently leading to statements like "You are still using Linux 8? I already use Linux 10."
At which point Slackware vowed to keep their version number always ahead of SUSE, just to annoy them.
@wakame @mia At one point, Mozilla genuinely thought Chrome was winning because “users download Chrome because it has a higher version number”
@momo @wakame @mia this is why xbox never followed a normal naming convention. they would always be one number behind playstation

@mia actually, that is misleading as #Darwin as #macOS'es Kernel is >40 and it's actually Windows NT 11.

Also #Linux on it's own isn't a #OS, as it requires some basic utilities and a C-library to work at all, which Distros maintain - like @ubuntu #UbuntuLTS 22.04 or 24.04 ...

@kkarhan misleading? this is just pure bs. reading the future on tea leaves has more sense than this joke :-)

@tivasyk yeah... sry...

I hate #AprilFools...

@kkarhan oh, it's _that_ day?! sorry, i think i'll go offline and code something, i'm not ready for another april fool madness… wish we did it on february 29th: every year is too often :-(
@mia ah so this is why linux sucks /s
@mia Haiku meanwhile: almost 20 years, and they're still trying to get to 1. (Less said about ReactOS, the better)
@starstorm_x1 @mia Haiku isn’t even at 1.0 and it already packs quite the punch.
@mia linux is better, version number is bloat

@mia Operating systems by best version:

Linux: 6
Windows: XP
Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard
@mia (lower is better)
@mia pretty sure we can deduce from this graph that Final Fantasy is actually the best operating system.
@mia Now that's what i call data
@mia Chrome OS version - in stratosphere
@mia time to do some necroboosting
