#SignalGroup for preserving the #Myrient #ROM database using #BitTorrent

Myrient is a huge collection of retro games and a very nice project. But as they are based on centralized cloud storage, the immense costs were not sustainable. By building a community of people who seed the files for free, the project can stay alive!

Signal Messenger Group

Follow this link to join a group on Signal Messenger.

Do we really need a signal group for this? Would much rather have the torrents be uploaded to a public tracker

@turkalino

Absolutely, do that for the ones you like! This is also more low level for people to guide them through the process

Rather use a messenger that didn’t require my phone number like xmpp.
@Willoughby @Rhababerbarbar i'm pretty sure Signal does *not* share your phone number with other members when joining a group...
Only if other contacts *already have* your phone number in their contacts, it will also be shown in Signal.

Signal requires your number for installation and a play store apk. This is hardly hidden or controversial information.

Xmpp and matrix(ugh) are more open protocols with far more flexibility.

Not like we aren’t pissing in the wind either-way. If anyone was serious, they’d host something anonymously on yggdrasil or i2p on multiple domains.

How big is the torrent?

@pizza_the_hutt

The idea is to create a bunch of separate ones. The whole database is huge, 144TB exists on this archive alone
