Some really great updates in Mastodon's latest Trunk & Tidbits blog post, including, from the W3C Social Web working group notes, a note on LOLA, a "proposal for live online account portability between two ActivityPub servers".

And a huge thanks to the @MastodonEngineering team for including my new project!

"[...] a new tool for sending Fediverse Invitations to friends, where you can include recommended apps and other information of your choice"

A customizable fediverse invitation page that you can share with friends.

Wow, perfect idea, Stefan.

This is exactly what I need to invite my friends and family to join me here.

I’d wanted something like this to use when a website visitor clicks a “Follow” or “Like” button. Even made some sketches, but I like your design better.

Any guidance on using this as a “signup” link from my websites?

@stefan @MastodonEngineering

@benpate Thank you!

Yeah, the complexities of the fediverse, as you know very well yourself, create some interesting challenges, but I think it can be fun to approach them creatively. I'm glad people seem to generally like this project!

As for guidance, that is a great question, and something I now want to touch on on the project page!

Maybe I could design a fancy "  Join the fediverse" button!

@stefan

You’re doing something really great by including mobile apps and “starter packs” as a part of the recommendation

It’s a big step in the right direction

Maybe you can Mastodon’s “Featured Collections” once they become a thing?

Our whole ecosystem needs to keep more state information like this through the onboarding process. For example, if I join a server because im trying to “Follow” someone, the server’s signup process should remember that, and prompt me to follow them once I’m in.

@benpate Thank you! Yeah, I am really happy with how much thought went into making what looks like a pretty simple page.

For example, you might notice that the "popular accounts" link carries over the server domain, so that all profiles open directly on there, removing the need to look each of them up, or even having to explain that's how account discovery works.

(Kudos to @stefan for implementing that in his tool!)

"Maybe you can Mastodon’s “Featured Collections” once they become a thing?"

Yep, this is planned!

"Our whole ecosystem needs to keep more state information like this through the onboarding process."

Definitely, looking forward to web intents making stuff like that possible!
