“It doesn't feel safe”—Many international game developers plan to skip GDC in US - Ars Technica

“I honestly don’t know anyone who is not from the US who is planning on going to the next GDC,” Godot Foundation Executive Director Emilio Coppola, who’s based in Spain, told Ars. “We never felt super safe, but now we are not willing to risk it.”

I'd not enter a place not only known for having vibe-based border controls (aka. a valid visa does not mean jack shite!) but also #ForcedDisappearances of people!

@jbz I can't understand why anyone would come here now unless forced - it's far too dangerous for non citizens in the US these days.

@jbz
I was recently in the US.

It was so deeply depressing. Wait staff desperate for tips. Extended family on the brink of financial disaster with no access to health care. Potholed roads. Crumbling infrastructure. Ads blasting out of every gas pump. Ultra processed food everywhere. And prices, oh lord so high..

I wept when i finally got back "home" overseas. Partly in joy at being somewhere sane. Partly in sorrow for what has become of my place of birth. Partly in fear for who I left behind.
