It's #MARCHintosh, so I decided to post an update on my interactive fiction #HyperCard project.

Because I always have multiple projects in development, progress has been slow but steady—including the user interface, text parser, and other foundational under-the-hood development. The proof-of-concept UI is attached!

Please help with this project by offering your feedback, suggestions, and support:

@jdowns I have no nostalgia for the mac... but I need this game :D
@sunie Thanks for the motivation! 😊

@jdowns that’s a nice UI. reminds me a bit of the Legend entertainment adventures.

can you tell me more about how you drew the background art?

@vga256 HyperCard’s paint tools are quite rudimentary. I am creating all of the art using modern tools including Procreate and the like, then using GraphicConverter to scale to the correct size and convert from grayscale to 1-bit black and white.
@jdowns wow! so it was drawn in procreate first! it dithered down really nicely - i suppose starting in greyscale helped. i’m very curious what the procreate original looked like before dithering!
@vga256 That’s a great idea. I’ll work on a post comparing the originals with the converted art for use in HyperCard. It took quite a bit of experimenting to get the converted art to look passable in pure black and white.
@jdowns i can't wait to see it. it can be so hard to make atkinson dithering look good with certain kinds of images.
