@_the_cloud It looks like my Globaltalk file share is working perfectly (including the one on the adjacent iMac on the same EtherTalk network, yay!) but I'm having printing issues with SimpleSpooler. The log shows that print jobs were received, but nothing actually got printed. Any recommendations on where to begin troubleshooting? #MARCHintosh #GlobalTalk
@virtualoak Did the log say it was "Printing" or just that it spooled to a file? If not, was the Enabled checkbox selected when you started the spooler? Is the printer plugged in to the selected serial port? Is it turned on and paper loaded? If it's not working with one port, maybe try using the other port? (Maybe the printer port is already in use by AppleTalk?) Just some thoughts off the top of my head.
@_the_cloud Unfortunately I had restarted the spooler before you replied. I know for sure It indicated "spooled" but don't recall if it then said "printed". Printer turned on and paper loaded, and confirmed printing with a local print job. In the spooler I had it set to point to the printer port, so I switched it to the modem option... I think that's the direction you were wanting me to try? The Powerbook has a single shared printer/modem serial port, so I'm hoping this works. Any way you can try to send me another page, please? Thanks!
@virtualoak Currently printing to your spooler. The log should show Opening Connection, followed by Spooling to <file>, then Received (number of bytes), followed by Closing Connection. That's the spooling part. The print queue kicks in about 6-8 seconds after that, and you should see a Printing message.
@_the_cloud It does indeed indicating “Printing”, but nothing actually came off the printer.
@virtualoak Ah... that's what I would expect to see though I don't know why nothing is reaching the device that's plugged into your single shared port. Will have to do some more reading on how those Powerbooks work. Away from keyboard for a bit now.
@_the_cloud Doh! I figured it out... it helps to press the select button to enable the printer. Yeah, it's been a while since I worked with a dot matrix printer LOL. And I did indeed receive your print job, thanks!
@virtualoak Awesome! Great to hear!
@_the_cloud That makes it official, I’m fully up on GlobalTalk! Now to explore!
