Just finished reading Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett. Absolutely phenomenal. One of my favorite Discworld books I have read so far. Must read. A woman joins the army (an abomination unto Nuggan) in a repressive Patriarchal country it spirals from there.

Check it out! GNU Terry Pratchett.

@kemotep I've only read one Discworld book so far, Thief of Time, bought at Camden Market in London. Def need to check out his other stuff.

@xavierhm @kemotep the early books are funny but a bit weak narratively

The series really stretches its legs after guards guards, although some discworld enjoyers claim that the narrative heavy “the fifth elephant” lost its way

@Slyence @xavierhm @kemotep When I was a teenager, a friend of mine gave me Guards! Guards! as a present while I was recovering from my tonsillectomy. I laughed so hard I almost tore my stitches, but I couldn't put the book down.
@xavierhm you should definitely check out Guards, Guards! And the rest of the City Watch books and Monstrous Regiment is really good in my opinion.
@kemotep i just put it on hold at my library! :)
@xavierhm @kemotep I always find the idea of starting at Thief of Time interesting. It’s really a meta Discworld novel he wrote to deal with all the continuity complaints readers had that annoyed him.
@Chigaze @kemotep i didn't know that! i really liked it :)
@kemotep read this one to my kids, fabulous stuff, should be taught at schools (that, Men at arms, and night watch)
@kemotep this is the one I pushed for my partner to read as her first Discworld. She had a blast!
