The way everyone regardless of race, creed, or religion treats the posted speed limit as a floor with 15mph of ceiling — whether in a school parking lot, residential street, or highway — is going to be what turns me into Michael Douglas in FALLING DOWN.
@jimray In my experience this is something you teach American drivers explicitly. Literally. Because how the law’s practiced is more important than how it’s written.
@clarko and given that American cops only feel the need to enforce the law as a pretext for incarcerating or murdering poor/Black/Brown folks, the only solution is designing safer streets. Should be simple!
@jimray in my experience when there’s no guns on the streets anymore, the police get bored and start enforcing traffic law to feel tough.
@clarko sounds so simple!
@jimray my Dad used to tell me that the amount you could "reasonably" add was 10% + 3mph :)
@jimray normalization of deviance is wild stuff
@SnoopJ my manifesto is just going to be “the most punk rock thing you can do right now is be a decent person. Who doesn’t speed.”
@jimray I don’t speed in residential neighborhoods and as a result, I get passed illegally on residential roads. It’s wild.
@emily it’s so maddening!
