I thought this magazine warrants a separate thread. "Cats", February 1961, lots of screenshots of the scan will follow. 🧵
I'm not sure "TOM SCAT" is harmless, it surely doesn't sound like it is...
Happy valentine to your cat with a custom toy with a furry-feeling mice dressed in custom-knitted coats (1961)

It is fascinating that people posted their cat photos for others to see even back in 1961, AND they didn't care about privacy at all and simply used their real home addresses when they did.

The world used to be a kinder place, it seems.

hoomans love cats and will share their images with other hoomans while making silly comments about it. I bet this was the hobby even before cameras were invented
oh myyyy gooodness, we're on page 8 of the "Cats magazine" and it is still rocks, now we have "Fewlines 'bout felines" section with cat-related poems from readers

Finest grade catnip, can be grown (!!), 1 quart (??) for $1

Also, Linatone cat syrup: "love the flavor!", accompanied with a drawing of a cat that seems to be happy? "Makes cat food tasty"... What do you feed your cat with?!

@nina_kali_nina This was the time tobacco was endorsed by doctors.

It's not uncommon in the US to see plants sold by the volume of their pot. A one quart plant is big enough to need a one quart (or one liter) pot of soil

@nina_kali_nina Probably. I once tripped over an exchange of letters between Edwin Armstrong and Lee DeForest in the pages of a 1912 wireless magazine.

Swear to ghu, it was a classic internet flame war, right down to the point where the moderator says "that's enough from both of you."

@nina_kali_nina There are enough paintings featuring cats that I think it's pretty much confirmed.
@nina_kali_nina I would love to hear this album :)
@synec It was Piknik, and I think it must've been "Govorit i pokazivaet" from 2003 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBQpILYYLhc

@synec funny how the song and the album are called "speaks and shows" - the words said by the central broadcasting company in Soviet Russia at the beginning of a broadcast
@nina_kali_nina i’m imagining other readers writing mail to the ones who posted, and exchanging further cat pictures… it all feels really sweet
