Ancient World Fantasy

@KuudereKun Interesting piece, thank you. I think there’s a possible extension to your argument to fantasy #TTRPGs where most also follow the European middle ages model. Notable exceptions being the long out of print #Bushido, and the explicitly Bronze Age inspired #RuneQuest / #Glorantha.
@arcadiagt5 Thank you, I'll look into those Games.
@KuudereKun you’re welcome. However, although #RuneQuest is currently in print with a fabulous starter set, #Bushido went out of print in the 90s, so I wish you the best of luck in tracking down a copy.
@arcadiagt5 Are then are stories told in other mediums set in their universes?
@KuudereKun I believe that there are some #Glorantha stories that have been published, but I don’t know where to get them. #Bushido? Dunno. It was an 80s / 90s #TTRPG from a company that was never particularly popular in the market, so I doubt that there was much, if anything, for them.

@arcadiagt5 @KuudereKun
There were some outstanding stories included in some of the RuneQuest supplemental works. Funny, entertaining, and clever. Nothing like most of the game related fiction of the time.

I remember that one of the stories was called "The Smell of A Rat".

Old RQ and Bushido material is generally available via torrent.

@arcadiagt5 @Quasit Thank you both.

Glad to help! "The Smell of A Rat" was by Alan LaVergne, and appeared in "The Runequest Companion" (originally for Runequest 2). It featured a sage named Zero who was a detective. He wrote another Zero story which was published in the "Tales of the Reaching Moon".

Unfortunately his story doesn't seem to be in this collection, but there do seem to be a lot of similar stories in this PDF:

@Quasit @KuudereKun @arcadiagt5 the most well known fiction set in Glorantha are probably the stories about Griselda https://wellofdaliath.chaosium.com/home/catalogue/publishers/reaching-moon-megacorp/collected-griselda-the/

For Bushido the best reference if probably Kurosawa movies. The game is still for sale, no need for torrents. https://www.fantasygamesunlimited.net/product-category/bushido/

It takes skill, courage, and a whole lot of luck to survive in Glorantha, and nowhere more so than in the frontier town of Pavis – unless, of course, you have brains, beauty and a wickedly sh…
