When I was a physics student, I had braids (some people used to call me Pocahontas).
Teachers did not like me much in special maths class for sure (too arty for their taste, so-called NaN people never get represented for a reason: I guess out of peer pressure and #statistics). I lacked inspiring role models around me..

Non sequitur, I don't know how to do the French braid alone tho.. That one is cool
