So if #Vim falls to the AI-bro madness, does that mean #Emacs wins the age-old debate of which editor is better?

#NoAI #FuckAI

@RandamuMaki I haven't heard of this. Can I ask what the context is?
@RandamuMaki I think Emacs has AI-packages, too?

@superketchup No AI-packages come with Emacs but there are several available un thenpopular MELPA package repository. But is that what @RandamuMaki meant? I thought "falling to the AI-bro madness" might mean the source code for the editor has merged some vibe-coded pull requests. What did you mean, @RandamuMaki?

GNU ELPA - ellama

@pkal @superketchup @RandamuMaki I only mentioned MELPA because I was sure they were there and too lazy to check if there were some also on ELPA. Thanks for clearing that up.

@oantolin @superketchup @RandamuMaki But yes, since GNU isn't yet certain of the legal state of LLM-created software, we don't accept patches to emacs.git or packages for elpa/gnu.git. We'd have to check if all the auto-sync'ed packages in GNU ELPA actually stand by this position.

Related, I was involved in some long standing dumb-jump issues that recently got resolved using AI agents. The code is OK I guess, but the workflow seems bizarre to a bystander: https://github.com/jacktasia/dumb-jump/pull/523
