@bouriquet @Simplicator Right now 214 Democrats serve among the 435 representatives in #Congress, so they would need just 4 of the 218 Republicans to follow their oaths to protect the #USA #Constitution and #impeach the president.
There are, of course, not 4 GOP members who are more loyal to the Constitution than they are loyal to Trump and their own power.
Make sure you're registered to #vote. Make sure there are Dems running in every race. Elect them. #democracy
@Simplicator The alternative to an election is a revolution. That is, walk away from our #Constitution and our #democracy and declare a new government.
That will be a very bloody affair because once you abandon our constitution, you abandon the foundation of all #law in our civil society. Your money will mean nothing, so no food, no energy. It will be anarchy and chaos.
Millions and millions will die.
@Simplicator Sure, we could have a peaceful constitutional convention to create a new constitution. But there are 76+ million people who voted for this president having witnessed his long campaign to undo our #democracy by violent and cruel means, so it seems unlikely they would just shake hands on a new national order without some of them resorting to violence.
@bouriquet Why wait to 2028? I'm voting this month in a congressional primary along with a slew of other local elections. Come November, I'm voting in the general election.
Am I concerned that the federal executive is trying to undermine elections? Of course. But elections are run by the states, and I have faith in mine.
I'm not going to help the bad guys out by preemptimately dismantling our democracy. If they want to break it, they have to do the work.
@bouriquet @Simplicator Even if the House did manage to #impeach the president, the 45 Democrats and two independents in the #USA #Senate would need 19 of the 53 Republicans to join them in voting for conviction and removal.
The GOP senators are about as obsequious as their colleagues in the House, debasing themselves at Trump's feet and sacrificing their children and ours to eeke a little more power and wealth for themselves.
But #democracy gives them power only as long as we elect them.
Absolutely spot on!
