Nerds! Is there a location tracker (like a physical tag) that I could put in a backpack and attach to an app so my family could see where I was at any given point in time? Ideally I'd like one that draws a fun little map with my route. AirTags? Do they draw a little map or just say current location?

[NOTE: I am not recommending anyone else does this, and it won't be permanent, I just have a limited use case for which I would like to use one of these things]

@girlonthenet RevK @revk used to have a GPS logger in his collection of available circuit boards - not sure if it could send live positioning data or whether it was better suited for saving your tracks to memory until you download it. In any case can't see it on his store right now.

@nmeth @girlonthenet Mostly for later processing, but obviously all is possible.

And, to be honest, happy to work on such a project, but one has to wonder - get an iPhone and find my friends?

Yes, I could make something way more privacy preserving, if needed.

TBH battery management on any project is the biggest issue.

But yes, say it you want me to have a play... I've done this on a cruise ship once.

@revk @nmeth ah thank you! I appreciate the info. Find My doesn't quite work for what I need because I'd like historical route data, but I think I've found a solution now - thanks!
@girlonthenet @nmeth Makes sense, and yes, I definitely did that on a cruise once. Let me know if I can help in future.
