Millions of students are getting locked into closed, proprietary software from Big Tech vendors. Here's how #LibreOffice can give them back their digital sovereignty: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/03/06/libreoffice-for-education-regaining-digital-sovereignty/ #foss #openSource #freesoftware
@libreoffice A bit less antagonistic than the previous blog post, but still only ever defines LibreOffice in comparison with other similar software. It would be better in my opinion to talk about what LibreOffice has to offer without constantly comparing it to the neighbour, which can come off as insecure.
@libreoffice Also, the advice to start transitioning by adopting odf regardless of the software used to create it is questionable, as odf rendering is still widely inconsistent across different software implementation; ironically more so than these software’s implementation of docx.

To reword it differently, platforms spend more efforts making sure that a docx renders correctly to their customer than they do odt, so just switching to the “open format” for the sake of it would actually prove counter productive.
@libreoffice LiberOffice Available for Android

@libreoffice I would genuinely love to see this happen--European countries are moving away from Microsoft-owned-and-exploited systems already. But, I'm just not sure how to make it work in the United States given the near-total dominance of large, corporate influence.

We can make good (or bad) arguments in favor of it all day, but I'm not sure winning the argument will change anything.

It's a solid and important goal to aim for--I'm just not sure how non-billionaires can make it happen.

@libreoffice - some screenshots for the new Apple Neo (which Apple promotes for students) has icons for Microsoft 365 highlighted. Not even their Pages, et al.
A surprise for Apple, but maybe trying to show this 'budget' MacBook can run 'real' apps - while locking newcomers into that environment. Corporate back rubbing when other apps - like LibreOffice - available.
@libreoffice on Debian you can install times new Roman by installing Microsoft fonts if need be for school
