Re the quoted comment by a colleague that one might be fooled by natural variations such as hot years due to El Niño events: that is exactly why in 2011 we developed our method to remove such natural variations due to El Niño, volcanism 🌋 and solar ☀️activity, which we used in this paper as well.

Apart from starting a war with one of the major oil producers what truly meaningful efforts are the old imperial powers taking to reduce oil consumption? The ruling crime syndicate in the former USA wants to start burning coal at scale again.
