What are the worst #linux #opensource #freesoftware #libresoftware rabbit holes of all?
My top contenders:
1. Emacs
2. Guix / Nix
I went all in on Emacs which cost or saved me years of my life -- I will never know which. So far I resisted Guix.

@tmalsburg I'd say that, at least for me, emacs is time neutral. Some tasks become easier (magit!, keyboard macros!, dired!) but I lose about the same amount of time futzing around.
But spending time using tools you enjoy is a lot better than spending it using tools that annoy you and that's gotta count for something.
I won't touch guix because, for me, it would be a bottomless rabbit hole that I'd never return from.
@tmalsburg lisp
Anything having to do with lisp
@tmalsburg I had to ban myself from using it. I would fall down a two week rabbit hole and then have nothing to show for it⦠every time
Itβs so intensely fun and interesting to use, and so difficult to convince anyone else of the utility of the code you wrote
Itβs basically not great at conveying ideas to other humans. While being incredibly powerful at accomplishing meaningful work on the computer. A dangerous combination
