Recent events in the Middle East mean many citizens need a safe route back to Europe.

Here is what we are doing to help, through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism:

🔹 We are helping EU countries organise repatriation flights.
🔹 6 flights have already brought citizens back to 🇧🇬, 🇮🇹, 🇦🇹, and 🇸🇰.
🔹 We are planning more flights over the coming days to help even more people return home.

The safety of Europeans is always our first priority.

@EUCommission Are seats going to be assigned based on whether they were in Dubai as your employees, working for NGOs, doing science/archeology or whatever OR just evading taxes/running an "influencer" scam or pimping young women? Asking for a taxpayer.

@EUCommission The EU Comission is saying they won't let people drown in the Mediterranean Sea because they have the right citizenship: Noted.

Also noted that they don't simply say "evacuation" but have some strange need to say "repatriation flights".

@huskeyb @EUCommission How about you vote for it? It's not only a minority view in most parts of Europe, it's definitely not what most Germans voted for. The national governments control the EU. The one I voted for is in the minority (probably alone on this issue actually), the German government is against it because so are most German voters.

@EUCommission Do you just need a pilot and a plane willing to go there? Or do you go as far as getting agreement from Iran military that the planes won't get targeted?

@fallbackerik I think these flights are only leaving from airspace that is considered safe still. Oman wasn't attacked so maybe from there. I don't know if there's anything more than the observation that Iran has not attacked Oman so far and that Oman does not have a permanent US base as a guarantee.

@FluffyBunnikins well, I agree the war that Israel and USA started is illegal but I don't think the wording is that bad since the more specific events are seemingly somewhat indiscriminate attacks by Iran on countries that are not directly taking part in the war.

@EUCommission Those ‘recent events in the Middle East’ as your inclination toward euphemism likes to call them, happen to have been directly caused by the warmonger who called himself ‘chairman for life’ of a so-called ‘board of peace’ where your commission has sent an illegitimate representative without the will of the Council nor sovereign states of the #EuropeanUnion. They also whitewash their war on our democracy and rights and health, sell us to the pedophile fascistic war criminal in the WH and the US tech fashs who are waging war *on the EU*.

Therefore, I'm not at all surprised they whitewash the gross violation of International Law by Trump and Netanyahu as ILLEGAL WAR and suck up to him, but they must all be held accountable.
