Iran had no dispute with Israel and was its ally when the Shah was in power. After the #IslamicRevolution in 1979, Ruhollah #Khomeini came to power and declared destruction of Israel as a core objective ➡️ https://web.archive.org/web/20220224041118/https://www.jpost.com/christianworld/article-698136

#Terrorism was very popular among #Palestinians long before 1991. 1st #Palestinian #Intifada began in 1987.

@rameshgupta

I wasn't saying Iran started hating Israel then.

I said that's when Israel started hating Iran and started characterising the threat as Islam.

Terrorism came long before 1991, but it wasn't characterised as Islamic.

The "global threat to democracy" was "communism" until the fall of the USSR.

I agree with most of what you said, but my quibble about timing is not pedantic 🙂

Saying that #Israel's hatred for #Iran started in 1991, "Spot on the dot of the end of the #USSR " influence of propaganda. In fact, the next sentence confirms that.

But if Ruhollah #Khomeini declared destruction of Israel as a core objective in 1979 when he came to power after the #IslamicRevolution, one would imagine Israel's hatred of Iran must have started long before the demise of the #SovietUnion
