The Technical Differences Between the MacBook Neo and MacBook Air - 512 Pixels

With a price point of $599 (or $499 for students!) Apple had to make some cuts when designing the MacBook Neo. Here’s a list of what separates the MacBook Neo from the $1099 MacBook Air: No MagSafe One of the two USB-C ports is limited to USB 2.0 speeds of just 480 Mb/s No Thunderbolt […]

@512pixels @ismh86 processor difference may be fine, but that RAM…
@512pixels @ismh86 I think this is a typo: “does not support for high-impedance” should probably be “does not have support for high-impedance”
@512pixels I wonder how many customers are going to return it solely because the keyboard doesn’t light up. Apple has now set a $500 premium for a backlit keyboard.
@512pixels Interesting where different people find their breakpoints. No backlit keyboard alone would push me to the Air. Even the Logitech keyboard case for my iPad has backlit keys! Maybe I “compute more in the dark” than most…
@JohnOCFII @512pixels My breakpoint for a personal laptop would be storage. Other than that, the biggest mistake (in my opinion) for a mass-market laptop is having 2 USB ports that look exactly the same but behave differently.

@512pixels I actually wonder if it will work in some capacity with the Studio Displays- they don't truly require thunderbolt, as the early iPads don't have them but are still supported. I can plug my iPhone 15 pro into my gen1 Studio Display and it shows up okay.

Might not be full resolution though... or it could have a software lock-out. But even that I doubt- you could use the previous version with a PC just fine over DisplayPort, even if the speakers and camera didn't really work.

@joshcalvetti The Neo isn't listed as a supported machine on the Studio Display pages, but I'm sure someone will try it!
@512pixels 'Trackpad does not support Force Touch' Does the trackpad physically click like it's 2015?
@512pixels It also does not feature an ambient light sensor for screen brightness.
@512pixels Might be obvious, but the M5 vs A18 Pro difference is probably worth noting explicitly. I feel like that's a lot of what you're paying for.
