You can buy a MacBook for $499 and an iPad for $3,200, but only one of those machines can run real apps 🤷‍♂️
@stroughtonsmith What are « real apps Â» ? (And what’s a computer ?)

@caseyneiba @stroughtonsmith My standby tentpole case in point is OBS. iPads have the hardware grunt to run it, but OBS isn't allowed on iPadOS due to arbitrary restrictions. Apple also stupidly doesn't allow most multimedia/camera apps to run concurrently alongside other apps outside of full screen mode.

The iPad has the theoretical ability to be a portable mobile streaming powerhouse, but Apple holds it back.

@USBTypeSteve @stroughtonsmith I agree with you that some apps can’t actually run on iPadOS due to Apple limitations, that doesn’t mean that ALL apps are not « real Â» apps. The same way some apps could not work on macOS as is (navigation apps for example).
@stroughtonsmith Kinda streching the definition of run there
@stroughtonsmith also only one is not an “app console” that can run notarized apps that you download from anywhere.
@stroughtonsmith one requires a subscription for Logic Pro and other pro apps and the other one doesn’t
@stroughtonsmith ... as long as Apple lets you. The net is still being tightened.
