So apparently vimeo is now requiring users engage with the creepty third-party "age verification" surveillance-ware, which means I am looking for alternate video hosting possibilities.

Any suggestions round these parts?

Apparently it is free accounts only. I took one I paid for to free and was not warned I would lose access.

But this is much worse! I am so sick of pay for privacy. EU suit when??

It is pretty easy to delete your vimeo accounts once you can find a contact page that lets you email without being logged in. They will send you a CSV of your data, including links to videos for download.

The biggest con is the links live for only 24 hours, so you gotta be on it, but highly recommend getting out.

Now to figure out peertube.

@sarahghp so, just email them to request account deletion? I'm struggling to find a contact page that doesn't redirect me to age verification. maybe I need to log out first...

@sarahghp Thanks. I couldn't find that, and couldn't get past the age verification until I logged out.
@sarahghp Thanks for letting me know. I received the CSV file today and was able to download my videos to my hard drive. Now my nearly 70 videos and my account are disappearing from Vimeo.

@raphael @freebliss Oh, hyper8 looks really promising — thank you!

Also, are there any Peertube guides you find particularly good?

@sarahghp @freebliss By guide you mean to install or pick an instance ?
@raphael either! both!
@sarahghp Well the installation documentation is pretty well done (not easy nevertheless). https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube/blob/develop/support/doc/production.md
Choosing an instance: That is tricky: the best is to “feel” the instance and its maintainers, knowing about their goals and economic model. I have no particular advice except digging this instance list: https://instances.joinpeertube.org/instances
@sarahghp I haven't been able to view my own profile for nearly a year lol!
@hellocatfood what a fucking nightmare ... and a choice not to put the download and delete flow outside the verification. I searched around and finally found one form that was not behind a flag but jesus.
@sarahghp @hellocatfood I know they were firing a lot of staff lately and "restructuring" too so this seems to be part of a pattern.
@praxeology @hellocatfood Yeah I thought it was going to be more of a slow slide than a hard wall but that shows me!
@sarahghp this is gross af... I need to get my shit of there asap
