So apparently vimeo is now requiring users engage with the creepty third-party "age verification" surveillance-ware, which means I am looking for alternate video hosting possibilities.

Any suggestions round these parts?

@sarahghp
- A safe and perennial Peertube instance
- Your own Peertube instance (may involves costs)
- Hyper 8 by @freebliss https://simonrepp.com/video/hyper8/ (self-hosted video managing system)
- commercial vimeo-like service (that will eventually deceive you one day)
Hyper 8 Video System

A static site generator for video - which generated the very site you are on right now! If you're new to Hyper 8 check out the tour around Hyper 8 (https://simonrepp.com/video/hyper8/tour/)

@raphael @freebliss Oh, hyper8 looks really promising — thank you!

Also, are there any Peertube guides you find particularly good?

@sarahghp @freebliss By guide you mean to install or pick an instance ?
@raphael either! both!
@sarahghp Well the installation documentation is pretty well done (not easy nevertheless). https://github.com/Chocobozzz/PeerTube/blob/develop/support/doc/production.md
Choosing an instance: That is tricky: the best is to “feel” the instance and its maintainers, knowing about their goals and economic model. I have no particular advice except digging this instance list: https://instances.joinpeertube.org/instances
