Hello #HypeBot operator, there has been a recent case sensitivity patch in tante's fork to respect #NoBot in user profiles in addition to #nobot.

Your instance boosted the above post, indicating it does not have this behavior. For the sake of fedi users like myself who use the screen reader-friendly capitalization, please update your instance or pull the patch into your copy at your earliest convenience.

Patch: https://codeberg.org/tante/hypebot/pulls/28
(Edit: note that this patch itself had an issue so you will want to pull https://codeberg.org/tante/hypebot/commit/f3b4fec9c9 as well if you're slicing and dicing; otherwise just pull t4nte/hype:latest)

@computercolinx @SecretAntelope @pegaz @nachbarschaft @james @huey @awesomesheep48 @jonas @hypebot

Handle case variation in #nobot, #nobots tags (i.e. #NoBot)

Closes #27. This changeset alters the check for the `#nobot, #nobots` exclusion tags to account for case variants (i.e. `#NoBot`) by case-folding the user's bio before the check.

@SnoopJ So sorry for that and thank you so much for flagging! I have removed the boost and updated to the version with the patch!
@lily no apology necessary, just taking it upon myself to let operators know as it happens. I'll untag you from the post when next I update it, cheers!
@SnoopJ 🍻 also thank you throwing that patch together!
@lily what can I say, Python and a Unicode quirk is a combination that is like cat-nip for me
@SnoopJ Oh thanks! I kinda forgot about it 😅 I'll update it tomorrow and I'll make sure it's part of my CI/CD pipeline

Oh, I would be very happy to see patches and PRs like this on the original code repository :)

The patch is for a fork of my project https://github.com/v411e/hype

I have no idea why @tante made this fork and did not contribute to the original repo in the first place tbh.

@valentin I see, I did not realize there was a fork.

Your version appears to lack support for either form of the tag, so the patch will be larger than the tweak linked above.

@valentin I created my own copy because I wanted to experiment with a few features (still have some on my Todo list if the time allows it) that will change the bot even more with a stronger editorial stance. It's still possible to merge those back, it's not a hostile fork or anything. It was mostly me not wanting to push another project in directions that it didn't look like it was aiming for.

@valentin @SnoopJ @tante

Mine is a fork as well, though close to the original. I can understand the nobot tag for spamming comments, but I guess I find it a bit odd for an automated boost - since it's pretty innocuous. 🤷

@SecretAntelope @valentin @SnoopJ a boost can bring a lot of attention to the person (and load to the server) that some people have very good reasons to want to avoid.
@SnoopJ build a new image 2 days after the release and can confirm that the patch is applied in the running version. Seems this could be a bug, thanks for letting me know!
@Darki03 huh, yea, maybe there's more to it than we thought. Thanks for the counter-report, I'll take another look.
@SnoopJ I'm glad I saw this post. I wasn't aware of #HypeBot but had been seeing posts in my timeline that I couldn't explain. Now I understand. So Thanks.
@SnoopJ
Paused my bot while I figure out why it isn't updated, thanks for flagging!
@SnoopJ @rk number mill grinds integers into fractions
@ferrix @rk uniformly seasoned maths, every time! 😋
@ferrix @SnoopJ @rk my mill grinds,

your mill grinds,
DIVIDE BY ZERO
@SnoopJ
damn, I kinda want one now
@Doomed_Daniel me too (sorry)
@SnoopJ I've seen offers for 800-1000EUR
@SnoopJ recently inherited one of these and they are deeply weird, something like a cross in feeling between an old SLR camera and a slide rule. just technology from an alternate timeline
@mcnuttandrew definitely a different kind of building than is so prevalent today. Must be wild to interact with one hands-on.
@SnoopJ that's some fine knurling, right there.
@SnoopJ dammit, I thought my Soviet circular slide rule would be the most eclectic pre-digital calculation device I would hunt down to own, but

@joshg @SnoopJ

ooooh, check out the fuller spiral slide rule:

Thatcher’s Calculating Instrument – University of Toronto Scientific Instruments Collection

@lain_7 @SnoopJ ooh, that looks worth turning into a printable / craftable design. thanks, now I have another side project on the docket :D
@SnoopJ the wikipedia page immediately opens with every pun I wanted to post

"It was not long before Herzstark's financial backers, thinking they had got from him all they needed, conspired to force him out by reducing the value of all of the company's existing stock to zero, including his one-third interest. These were the same people who had earlier elected not to have Herzstark transfer ownership of his patents to the company, so that, should anyone sue, they would be suing Herzstark, not the company, thereby protecting themselves at Herzstark's expense."
lol
@SnoopJ
tech investors being absolutely morally corrupt (and at the same time dumb as fuck) before it even went digital
@Doomed_Daniel Money Bastards have a long and rich hisstory of being the most miserable fuckers to ever do it
Do not attempt to disassemble, you will most probably NOT manage to reassemble it correctly

@csolisr.azkware.net

I have seen an exploded view of it and it frightened me.

@SnoopJ I thought that was a weed grinder.
@SnoopJ @USelaine I have one of these. It used to be my dad’s.
@donlamb_1 @USelaine a man of excellent taste, then!
@SnoopJ @USelaine he was a land surveyor.

@SnoopJ

I still have my 1960s arithmetic telescope.

Equivalent to a slide rule six feet long.

@futurebird

@EricLawton @futurebird this is a new form factor to me, thanks for making me aware of it! what a beauty
@EricLawton I'm pretty sure that's a math billy stick
@EricLawton @SnoopJ @futurebird Otis King calculator. 'Just bought one!

@SnoopJ

I first found out about this device as it plays a big role in William Gibson's spy novel. I am mad at him for probably driving up the price such that I'll never be able to own one.

@futurebird I've not actually read that one, but it came up in another reply. Guess I should get around to it sometime!

@futurebird @SnoopJ
The main thing that drove up the price was the Scientific American article, not the WG novel.

I have a Type I, but shortly after I got it, the add/subtract slider failed, and now it only subtracts regardless of the slider position. I hope to get it repaired someday.

@SnoopJ About twice a year i go onto to eBay and look at listings for a curta and gently stroke my screen with my fingertips thinking of what it would be like to own one

"And the Lord spake, saying, First shalt
               thou take out the Holy Pin.
               Then, shalt thou count to three, no more,
               no less.
              Three shalt be the number thou shalt
              count, and the number of the counting
              shalt be three.
              Four shalt thou not count,
              nor either count thou two, excepting that
              thou then proceed to three.
              Five is right out.
              Once the number three,
              being the third number, be reached, then
              lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of
              Antioch towards thy foe, who being
              naughty in my sight, shall snuf it."
@SnoopJ "Nor either count thou two point seven one eight, excepting that thou then proceed to three."
@SnoopJ if you ever come visit SF I’ve got my grandfather’s, it’s good fun.
@SnoopJ I first learned of these in one of @GreatDismal 's Blue Ant novels. Really interesting!
@SnoopJ If I had a big pile of play money, I would buy one just to have it.
@Erpel @SnoopJ 10 years ago I have seen one for 140 Eur.
@SnoopJ Unironically have wanted one of these for years. I sorta' wish someone still made them.
@SnoopJ These bespoke hipster coffee grinders are getting more and more ridiculous every year
