Been a long time since I listened to Meantime fully. This will determine whether this is my top album from 1992, or if it's Piece of Cake by Mudhoney, which I just did fully- and is another SERIOUS contender. These are my final two out of a larger list for '92, and this one is CLOSE, like some of the others. Some years are really tougher to figure out than others πŸ˜…

Oh, and the reason I'm listening to all this older music is because I'm working on that 'album for every year I've been alive' thing @ttntm did, and not only is it going to help future 'favorite album' blog posts @HailsandAles does, it's a wild thing to do. I probably won't mention it again til I'm done or almost done, but the list is here, 1980-1992 is done: https://record.club/jake4480/lists/one-album-for-every-year-ive-been-alive
One album for every year I've been alive, a list by Jake

1980 to now!

Record Club

Brief note on the 'album for every year I've been alive' thing. I have less than 20 years to go now, home stretch. And since I'm only doing one per year, some choices have been tough. And there's lots to listen to. Today will be 2008.

A strange realization I had, I love Weedeater a ton and have been playing several of their records, but strangely, many of the years they had albums, so did Static-X, and I love Static-X more than Weedeater-- just slightly. So Static-X has just BARELY edged out a Weedeater album or two for several of the years now πŸ˜‚ Weird. And tough.

It's done! I started this (what I knew would be a) massive musical journey to determine my favorite album every year I've been alive on March 1 (of this year, 2026) and just finished today, March 13.

πŸ“ I wrote it up as a blog post here: https://spacetimetech.wordpress.com/2026/03/13/one-album-from-every-year-ive-been-alive

There, I discuss the process, and provide the link to the full list on record.club, which is also here: https://record.club/jake4480/lists/one-album-for-every-year-ive-been-alive πŸ’Ώ

-like, if you don't wanna read all that (it's not too long), but I get TL:DR. πŸ˜‚

One album from every year I’ve been alive

Damn, but I don’t think I’ve ever been so glad to be done with a project. πŸ˜‚ Recently, Tom over on Mastodon published his list for an album every year he’s been alive over on his r…

@josemachete79 haha thank you dude! Quite a mix- both fun and exhausting πŸ˜‚
@jake4480 @ttntm @82mhz @HailsandAles @derthomas @wendigo @VE3RWJ @Banur can’t wait to read this one tonight. incredible effort!
@tg hahaa thank youu! It was a blast- interesting and exhausting πŸ˜‚

@jake4480
Awesome! You made quite a project out of this πŸ˜„

I'm still not done with my list, I have the same problem as you... finding albums for the 80s and 90s is easy, but 2010s?

I might just have to leave the list unfinished, because there wasn't much new music that interested me then.

@ttntm @HailsandAles @derthomas @wendigo @VE3RWJ @Banur

@82mhz πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ those 2000s years were weird, right? I think a lot of more mainstream music peaked in the 90s. The 2000s get so strange. I had to go deep underground for a lot of those years. More modern pop music is mostly all lost on me.
@jake4480 Same here about modern pop... not my kind of thing. I am mostly listening to old stuff anyway, so for some years there simply is no album that I really like. I think my list will stay incomplete... but I'll keep thinking about it, maybe some more stuff will pop up.

@jake4480 @82mhz @HailsandAles @derthomas @wendigo @VE3RWJ @Banur this is fantastic, so much thought must've gone into this 😲

Thanks for doing and sharing, I knew you wouldn't be able to resist - sorry 😎

@ttntm πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ it was worth it. Wild project, and tough, but it was super interesting

@jake4480 Fascinating stuff, buddy! You're done! Congrats! I'm glad you had so much fun and even gained a little clarity... ;>)

@ttntm @82mhz @HailsandAles @derthomas @VE3RWJ @Banur

@jake4480 man this took me longer than expected, but I finally managed to read your blog post.

Fucking Clutch man, I love that album too!

@jake4480 Have you seen Static-X since Wayne Static died?
@guffo ugh. Yeah, I saw what they're doing. I hate it. hahaha
@guffo I should say, I personally hate it. I know the other guys were involved. But Wayne was the voice, he was so huge, and Cult, their 2009 one, he basically did himself. And it's amazing. I dunno, man. I heard his parents thought it was good, but I have to disagree. I do NOT think Wayne would've been cool with all this, not how they're doing it. But again, my opinion. haha

@jake4480 I saw them at Bloodstock last year and it went down really well. I guess I was never into that era of metal much to have an emotional attachment to it.

(I was kind of out of the loop for a *long* time due to moving to Australia in 2000, struggling to find work, moving back to the UK in 2004, working, then having kids. I had a lot on! I'm only now paying attention and going to gigs again because the kids are older now.)

@guffo ha! And wow, that IS a lot. I hear that. It came across good live though? That's good. Yeah, I never got to see em with Wayne either. Which is weird, I went to several Ozzfests haha
@jake4480 Yeah, they had a little tribute to Wayne half way through. It was quite touching. Then they immediately followed it with "I'm with Stupid" :D
@jake4480 This is why when I made my selections for favorite song every year I kept around the list of all of the top contenders because sometimes it was too close to call.
@skullvalanche It's insane sometimes. Earlier years were easier. I had 27 damn albums to look at for 2027 🀯 not that I listen to all fully, since some I'm so familiar with, I can just glance and rate. Others I need to revisit. And then 2008, struggled to even find one that was perfect - not that there weren't a lot that year but my criteria is fairly strict. Finally found one though, whew (The Roots)
@jake4480 @skullvalanche I have over 100 for some years in the 80s.
@jake4480 @ttntm @HailsandAles circle jerks golden shower of hits was the first tape i ever bought πŸ˜‚
@jake4480 This is amazing and such a good idea!
@jake4480 @ttntm @HailsandAles Nice, buddy! Can't argue with a single one. Man, if I did this, I'd have to do the whole 70s. I don't know if can... ;>)
@wendigo @ttntm @HailsandAles πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ yeah, all those 70s records! Hahaa
@jake4480 @ttntm @HailsandAles I'd be going through 30 or more records a year that were seriously good...
@wendigo @ttntm @HailsandAles ha! There have been some weird, tough choices in the late 80s/early 90s for me. The last few years are where it ramp up for me, I just counted, and yeah, a lot of times there are like 20 records to hear sometimes, in like 2016-2022. Some of which I haven't even heard! So that'll be wild hahaha
@jake4480 @ttntm @HailsandAles I did a "song for every year I've been alive" playlist for my 50th birthday (which was <mumble, mumble> years ago). That was fun. Whole albums would be an interesting challenge.
@donutage wowww yeah- it's wild how tough some of the choices are. Later years have LOTS of albums to go through πŸ€―πŸ˜‚
@jake4480 @ttntm @HailsandAles +1 Telekon, Pups, Flag, Surfers… Dang, bro πŸ˜…
@_slotek_ heck yeah! Oh good you agree. πŸ˜‚ Yeah, some bangers in there, right?? πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

@jake4480

No such thing as 'old' music.

Just music.

Music is ageless.

Like Paul Rudd and sprouts.

Wait....is Paul Rudd a sprout?

@jake4480 I wonder which year(s) I'd get stuck on.
@Vyothric it's weird haha. The earlier ones were easier, later ones have a TON to go through, sometimes just quick glances. 2008 was the only year so far I struggled to find just ONE that was perfect enough. But we shall see, going onward πŸ˜‚

@jake4480 What I found out so far:

1) Up to the mid 90's is easy (except 93 which I'm not sure about yet)

2) I don't know nearly enough album years

@Vyothric πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚ yeah. Kinda same for me. Til mid 90s was fairly simple.. After looking. Mostly about gathering all possibilities and quickly eliminating ones that aren't perfect enough. At least for me.
@jake4480 Also 3) I don't remember half the music I have on my computer.
@Vyothric πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ that's some of the problem! I'm like, have I heard this and forgotten it, or have I never heard it..
