Have you heard of NATO, Western imperialism and being surrounded by military bases? 🤔
Putin is a crook, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not that simple.
Odd choice of words. Countries are contained by their borders. Invaders are always the scum, there’s no situation where attacking Ukraine was justified.
I wish someone would have “contained” them sooner so Ukraine wouldn’t have to deal with the sewage spill.
It’s not an odd choice of words. It’s exactly the words used in certain circles.
They are staying on message.
Okay.
Ukraine agreed to disarm in exchange for protection. Russia “won” that concern already. Russia broke that agreement themselves, because they care about land, not “fear”.
Take a look at the murder of Renee Good, and what ICE viewed as defensive action. “I feared for my life” are pussy words used by monsters.
What I’ve heard is Russia wants access to the black sea since its crucial to their power projection. Which makes sense. Russia had its puppet running Ukraine until 2014 so they were ok with Ukraine’s sovereignty but the revolution leading to his overthrow open the door for installation of a Western puppet and Russia responded to that by annexing Crimea and eventually war. Zelensky has recently said Ukraine will be letting go of its NATO membership aspirations which should help with achieving peace, especially since leadership in both Russia and the West seem accepting of a war of attrition with Ukrainians stuck in the middle.
Putin’s strategy:
He’s betting that Russia’s authoritarian system can endure high casualties and economic hardship longer than Western democracies can maintain political support for Ukraine. He is waiting for “Ukraine fatigue” to flip elections in the U.S. and Europe.
A state of perpetual war allows the Kremlin to frame all domestic dissent as treason, effectively “cleansing” the Russian political landscape of pro-Western or liberal elements.
West’s strategy
By providing aid incrementally rather than all at once, NATO avoids red lines that might trigger a nuclear escalation or a direct Russia-NATO war. The goal is to weaken Russia slowly enough that the Kremlin doesn’t feel backed into a corner where they resort to extreme options.
The war has forced Western nations to revitalize their neglected defense sectors. This long-term ramp-up in production is seen as necessary to prepare for future conflicts.
This amazes me every time I hear it.
Russian Strategist: “Comrades, NATO has surrounded our homeland with military bases. They are aggressive, needlessly paranoid, using the absurd notion of our aggression as justification. We must not encourage this aggressive expansion. What shall our strategy be?”
Subordinate 1: “Bolster our defenses in kind?”
Subordinate 2: “Seed our economy!”
Subordinate 3: “Create ties with other nations peacefully, to show them a better way than Western aggression, manipulation and coercion.”
Subordinate 4: “Unite with our allies and resist the corrupt west.”
Subordinate 5: Taps chin. “…What if we expend vast resources and hundreds of thousands of young men ‘liberating’ our tiny neighbor, as they aren’t yet in NATO? To, uh…… discourage NATO from expanding?”
The room looks to the young advisor, in dead silence.
Strategist: “Brilliant! Genius! That will certainly discourage the growth of NATO.”
If Putin really was so afraid of NATO, he wouldn’t have dismantled his AA around the borders of NATO countries and transferred them to Ukraine (a non-NATO country) and Kreml.
You have fallen for a very stupid lie, or more likely you happily propagate the lie for whatever nefarious purposes you have.
Russia beats neighbor in the face.
Russia: “Stop making me do this, everyone!”
Continues to beat neighbor in the face, who just won’t go down.
Russia : Come on guys, you’re mean! Why are you making me do this!
China, looking on, rubs forehead and shakes their head. “Yes, that is our ally. Yep…” Gazes to a VERY drunk US shooting wildly.
NATO was standing there MENACINGLY
You know Russia could have joined, right?
I know for a fact this isn’t true, but I’m watching dimension 20 and maybe I just need a story to distract myself from reality.
But what if trump is actually playing 5D chess, and it’s trying to fuck up the eastern bloc? I know, I know, it’s giving him infinitely more credit than he deserves. Iran has probably the largest Navy outside of the G8. So Xi goes after Taiwan with us busy. China loses global standing like Russia and Us. China has most the chip manufacturing, but that doesn’t stop sanctions from hurting cause it’s all going to AI right now anyways. China has been tripling down on AI to the determent of their green energy component manufacturing. Europe rallies behind Ukraine as the US is bogged down with desert guerilla warfare (you’d think the dumb fucks in charge would’ve learned by now!). All three economies collapse, and like a mortal Russo’s basilisk, trump gives the middle finger live on air from his short hospice start as he takes his final breathe and says “fuck you 60% that didn’t vote for me.”
Ji xinping has called the reunification of Taiwan the essence of the countries rejuvination which must be achieved by 2049. And allthough they express a preference for peacefull reunification( which will never happen) officials have repeatedly stressed their right to resort to force.
And their one party system is no more adaptable than other authoritarian systems. I don’t know where you’re getting that from. I mean just look at the Evergrande fiasco.
In regards to adaptability, I’m comparing it to the liberal democracy I live under. Every administration in my lifetime has had far far greater policy continuity than difference. And it’s billed as a “laboratory of democracy”.
The CCP is at least capable of recognizing policy failure and trying something else.
I’m not quite sure what you are trying so say. Are you still talking about it in the context of China invading taiwan? As in they saw how didn’t work out for the US and that’s why they won’t invade taiwan? Because as I said they state themselves they are not opposed to forcefully acquiring the island.
Talking about adaptability in general, yes of course an authoritarian leadership can adapt and react a lot faster than a democracy because it doesn’t have to care about checks and balances, human rights and all the other bureaucracy that make up a democracy.
But that’s not really the adaptability that I would want, I quite enjoy living in a democracy…
